hello!
my name is JR Heard.
i'm a programmer living in san francisco. i like programming, music, and clouds. i work for yelp, so if yelp ever breaks or sucks for any reason, you should tell me about it, and it'll get fixed.
i maintain these projects regularly or semi-regularly:
-
hi mom, i made you a mixtape -
a place where, every month from july '09 until forever, i put up a new mixtape full of wonderful music for my mom (and anyone else who cares to visit) to enjoy. currently on hiatus.
-
non-mom music -
himom's twin sister. on occasion, i post a song that i like very much and that my mom probably won't.
-
a page of tumbling madness -
the closest thing i have to a blog, in which i exercise my love of talking about programming, and other things too.
and here's a sampling of some projects i've completed recently:
-
yelp's new homepage - i worked on this with a team of three other coders, and touched basically every part of the homepage in the process. in particular, the backend for the logged-in activity feed was me. this was a really fun project.
-
yelp's "hot new businesses" feature - see it for yourself on the homepage for sf, portland, austin, and lots of other cities.
-
yelp's "hipster ambience" feature - more coverage at huffington post, TIME, and eater. would you believe me if i told you that this was the result of two months of hard work?
-
yelp's palm pre application -
developed and released in roughly three weeks. special thanks to eric m. singley and pretz. coverage by palm, download.cnet.com, and others.
-
level 1 in project euler - been teaching myself common lisp, figured this'd be as good a way as any to cement my knowledge.
if you'd like to keep in touch, you can find me on twitter, tumblr, last.fm, facebook, del.icio.us, yelp, or github.
thanks again for dropping by!
